Thanks for your interest in working with Real Life Assistants!

We are looking for kind and compassionate people with a drive to provide high quality and individualised services for people with a disability and the wider community.

We look for people that align with our values, including:

  • Kindness
Above all else we want kind people working with us. If you are naturally patient, a good listener, helpful and considerate of other's feelings, we want you to work with us. We find arrogance, dismissiveness and judgmental attitudes major turn-offs.

  • Transparency
We strive to offer a service that is open and honest. We want people that are transparent with their needs and communication. We value people that own up to mistakes so problems can be promptly fixed.

  • Choice and Control
At the centre of our decision making is the choice and control of the participants we support. We strive to make reasonable accomodations when and wherever possible. We want people to work with us that understand that flexibilty is required if that's what will help the participants they support.

  • Dignity and Respect
We seek people that recognise that everyone has inherent value because they are human beings. We want people that have zero tolerance for abuse and treat people how they want to be treated.

Due to the high volume of applicants we receive each week, we are currently looking for people with disability support experience or people that are willing to do personal care (toileting, showering, wound care, etc)

Please note that we are unable to guarantee a timeline of when you will be contacted about your expression of interest.

As a provider of NDIS services, we are obligated to adhere to the NDIS Code of Conduct and the NDIS Standards of Practice. As part of that obligation, we must ensure that our staff are adequately trained and hold relevant documentation.

The following questions are provided to illustrate the requirements of working with us. Answering yes to all of them does not guarantee you will be given a role with Real Life Assistants but it will show that you have experience in the disability industry and/or are willing and dedicated to become part of our team.

Depending on whether you need to obtain an NDIS Screening Check and/or a Working With Children check, the onboarding process can take up to 2 months.

Unfortunately, we cannot accept your Expression of Interest if you do not have proof of your right to work in Australia.

NDIS Screening Check (NDISWC)

The NDIS Worker Screening Check is an assessment of whether a person who works, or seeks to work, with people with disability poses a risk to them. The assessment determines whether a person is cleared or excluded from working in certain roles with people with disability.

A cleared check is mandatory for all people that work at Real Life Assistants.

The NDIS Screening Check currently costs $80 and is not reimbursed by Real Life Assistants.

For more information:  NDIS Worker Screening Check | NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission

DO NOT nominate Real Life Assistants as an employer if you apply for a screening check before being interviewed and accepted with us. If you nominate us beforehand, we will not verify your NDIS Screening Check.

From Service NSW " Apply for an NDISWC" page:

  • "If you're not yet employed or not about to be employed by an NDIS provider, you cannot apply for an NDISWC."

From NDIS Commission " NDIS Worker Screening Check" page:

  • "Workers will nominate the NDIS provider or self-managed participant that engages them (or intends to engage them) to provide NDIS supports and services."

Working with Children's Check

The Working with Children Check (WWCC) is a requirement for anyone in paid or volunteer child-related work in NSW. Employers and organisations must verify the WWCC details of anyone they engage in child-related work. The Check lasts for 5 years and undergoes continuous monitoring, even if the Check holder moves jobs.

As you may be working with children, either the participant themself being a child or being the parent or older sibling of a child, we require all our staff to have a valid WWCC. The check must be an employee check, not volunteer.

The Working with Children Check currently costs $80 and is not reimbursed by Real Life Assistants.

Note: We cannot accept WWCC or Working with Vulnerable People checks issued in states or territories outside of NSW.

Appropriately Vaccinated

Current Public Health Order in NSW mandates that all disability workers in risk assessed roles are "appropriately vaccinated". Currently this means 3 doses.

Driver Licence

In the course of providing support to participants, often there is a requirement to provide them transport. This can involve going to shopping centres, appointments or other situations of accessing the community.

We require that all our staff hold a valid driver licence to ensure we can meet the support needs of our participants.

Occasionaly we do make exceptions but not having a valid driver licence severely limits your opportunities.

Car Registration

As the schedules and duties of a support worker can be quite diverse, we require that our staff have a car in good working order that is registered. Having your own vehicle ensures you can react to any changes that may occur. Including filling shifts at short notice or adapting to changes of planned activities during a shift.

Occasionally we do make exceptions but not having a registered vehicle severely limits your opportunities.

Additional Car Insurance (Comprehensive or Third Party Property)

We require that all our staff have at least "Third Party Property" insurance on their vehicles. This will help cover the cost of damage to the property of a third party.

This is not Greenslip/Compulsory Third Party (CTP)!

This is Third Party Property insurance that covers the cost of damage to other vehicles or property (e.g. Garage doors, mailboxes).

Car Insurance will not be reimbursed by Real Life Assistants. We provide a "per KM" compensation rate while you perform authorised travel with a participant and Real Life Assistants will not be held liable for any damage done to your vehicle or any 3rd party.

Roles

E.g. Assistance with showering, dressing, applying creams/lotions, toileting
e.g. Helping somebody in and out of bed
e.g. Tidying, washing up dishes, laundry of unsoiled clothes
